Symbolic Feng Shui for you
It is about spaces and people. It is about ‘using’ and ‘utilising’ spaces with relation to people. It encompasses what major object we place where. All this tags along with the ‘timing’ aspect. The placement of the right object at the right place at the right time in relation with the person / people concerned.
In the previous issue we touched upon what is Feng Shui and how does it work on you. Without doing anything there is Feng Shui all around us – just like gravity.
Watch what you say or do:
Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.
A symbol evokes response only in a relation to other symbols. Thus the "same" symbol in different contexts can elicit essentially different responses, or to put it in another way, a given symbol cannot be properly defined outside of a context.
All objects resonate to a particular vibration depending on their dimensions; this can bring good luck and benevolence or misfortune and ill health. The energies that most strongly effect you are that of objects which are important to you or that you spend a great deal of time immersed in e.g., your desk, bed, office/arm chair.
Feng Shui symbols:
Symbolic Feng Shui works, is because of the energy specific symbols bring into your environment, as well as because of their connection with the subconscious level of your mind. The stronger your connection with these symbols, i.e. the more you like them, the more powerful they become for you. Symbols have a connection with the subconscious level of your mind. The stronger your connection with these symbols, the more your energies work.
Feng Shui application.
Feng Shui application can be done with the help of Feng Shui charms and amulets. You can use crystals. You can use colors. They are known as Feng Shui cures and enhancers.
Your Feng Shui cures do not have to be big, or centre of attraction. It need not be an expensive object. It can be simple and well placed in your home, office, work desk etc.
You can have your Feng Shui cures in smaller size and "on-the-go" to constantly work on your personal energy, as well as surround you with a subtle aura of protection.
It could be a ring, a pendant, a bracelet, a mobile hanging etc. it could be a decoration at home or in the office space. It can be a table top or a wall hanging.
It can be a color on the wall or desk. It could be a particular shade of a color that your personal energy responds to.
You can use these for a variety of purposes. Like for instance to strengthen your health, family harmony, to attract a better love relationship. To improve on opportunities for job or wealth creation.
When exploring the richness of the Feng Shui symbols, do not negate a Feng Shui cure just because it looks unusual or too exotic. You can have it hidden, as cures do not have to be in plain view, or you can find a similar Feng Shui cure from your own culture that would carry the same Feng Shui energy of good luck and protection.
Not 100%.
This does not mean that if we have a money frog for example which indicates wealth symbolically in Feng Shui we do need to work any more. It certainly does not mean that wealth will accumulate on its own. No, in no way does it mean that we don’t do anything and await a ‘magical’ response.
What Feng Shui helps with is in ‘creating better opportunities’. This simply means that better opportunities will throw up. And we will be in the state to avail of these better opportunities.
Feng Shui Symbols
Mystic knot: Mystic knot is sometimes referred to as the endless knot, because it looks like the tail end is not in existence. It is one of the most often used symbols in Feng Shui.
According to the Buddhism philosophy, this knot is one of the 8 magical auspicious objects. Symbolically implying that there is no beginning and no ending, reflecting Buddhist philosophy of endless rounds of birth and rebirth.
Grounding and protecting, you can wear it when your personal energy is in need of focus, stability and clarity.
Crystals: The word crystal comes from the Greek word krystallos, meaning "frozen light". In its truest sense crystals are actually ‘frozen in time’
Crystals have been used over the centuries for a myriad of purposes - from healing to protection to decoration. The knowledge of crystals has been used in ancient Atlantis, in South America, Egypt, Tibet, India and many other cultures around the globe. Early works on astrology, written in Sanskrit and dating back to 400 BC make elaborate observations on the origin and power of stones.
When we look at science and the advancement of technology, ruby crystals, natural and man-made, are used in lasers for microscopic surgery. Quartz crystals are used in ultrasound devices, watches, as well as memory chips in computers, etc.
Color: Color is one of the easiest ways to shift the energy in your space with Feng Shui.
Each color is an expression of one of the Five Feng Shui Elements: Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Wood. The elements are used in specific areas according to the Feng Shui energy map of your space, or Bagua.
Mirrors: The mirror brings the energy same as of water. They are used to expand a space, as well as to draw the beneficial Chi in. Mirrors have been called the aspirin of Feng Shui; with proper placement, they can dramatically shift the flow of energy in any given space. They also bring a sense of refreshment and calm. Generally, there are three categories of mirrors in Feng Shui:
Typical mirrors defined by shape and frame materials (oval, round, square, etc.) For example, a round shape mirror in a gold leaf frame can be a beautiful Abundance cure and work well in the Southeast area of your space.
Concave mirrors. These mirrors are mostly used outside and produce an upside-down, condensed reflection.
Convex mirrors have protective qualities, serving as a watchful eye. Mostly used outside, although can be used inside, too, especially if nicely framed.
The Bagua Mirror: Also known as Pa-Kua Mirror or PaKua Mirror. The Ba-Gua mirror is a powerful Feng Shui cure. You will need it only if there is dangerous, sharp, or attacking energy, (called Sha Chi), coming towards your house or business. The Ba-Gua mirror is not a decor element and should not be used as such. It comes in both concave and convex form, surrounded by a wooden ba-gua in either red, green and gold color design or yellow, black and red. Never place this, ba-gua, mirror from your living room; this mirror should never be placed inside a home.
Lucky Bamboo: Making the best use of this:
· Wood - the Bamboo itself
· Earth - the Rocks the plant grows in
· Water - the Water the plant grows with
· Fire - most pots usually have a red ribbon tied to them
· Metal - the glass pots belong to the metal element. If Bamboo is planted in a pot other than glass (i.e. clay or ceramics) it will usually have either a metal coin, or a metal figurine with it.
The number of stalks have an implication:
· 3 for Happiness
· 5 for Health
· 2 for Love & Marriage
· 8 for Wealth and Abundance
· 9 is considered a lucky number and is an overall good number for Good Fortune and Happiness.

Is Feng Shui for you?
An introduction to Feng Shui.
Feng Shui has two aspects to it. It is a science as well a skill. On one hand it requires us to understand the science behind the age long held knowledge. While on the other hand it requires the skill and expertise to implement it.
It is about spaces and people. It is about ‘using’ and ‘utilising’ spaces with relation to people. It encompasses what major object we place where. All this tags along with the ‘timing’ aspect. The placement of the right object at the right place at the right time in relation with the person / people concerned.
How does Feng Shui work?
From when you are born, you will have your own type of magnetic energies. Each person will like different things and have a tendency to go towards a certain way of being. Think of magnetic energy as a pulling or magnetizing force field.
If magnetic forces are in harmony with you, meaning you are in correct alignment with the natural forces in your environment then your own impulses will become stronger, your thoughts get sharper, your body heals quicker and you will exude magnetism – in plain English it means people will like you more in your workplace and in your personal relationships. (ie. Job interviews, people who get away with things because people just like them)
Similarly if the magnetic forces are not in harmony with you then you cause a ‘pushing’ effect. Whereby your electromagnetic field starts pushing other people’s electromagnetic fields. Simply put you start to push people off. Which can have a counter effect and people can push you off in return.
What this means to you is that the environment causes many subtle changes to our mental states.
It changes little by little so you don’t really notice it, but you are being influenced.
And what that really means to you is that if you can tap into those energies correctly, your mind can be brighter and more illuminated than a light bulb as the natural forces boost the power of your electrical impulses!
This is where Feng Shui steps in. Feng Shui works on the cells and the electrical impulses in your body. It works by influencing your physiology and your psychology, how you feel and how you think. You don’t have to believe in it (just like gravity doesn’t need belief) however; it will affect how you think and feel and how other people treat you.
A simple example:
That’s why if you live near a power substation you can guarantee that your whole body and your mind is being tampered with, that’s why people living near places like that have such high rates of leukaemia. The cells in the body self sabotage and go into self destruct mode, ie. normal cells mutate into cancer cells that multiply and spread throughout their body.
That is why in Feng Shui, we always understand that people should ideally not live in places where there is so much electrical energy.
Just like gravity Feng Shui is working all the time.
Feng Shui is not a religion or a belief system. It is nothing to do with any particular legacy. It is in existence even while we are doing absolutely nothing about it. Just like you don’t have to go on top of a mountain and jump down to understand gravity, Feng Shui exist all around us.
Feng Shui Origins.
Pronounced: ‘foong shway’ or ‘fung shway’ or ‘fung schway’. It comes from the ancient Chinese art of orienting objects and towns to promote a healthy flow of chi. Chi is the positive energy flow. Chi (pronounced chee and also spelled qi or ch’i) is energy - the life giving energy that unites body, mind and spirit. Everyone has Chi. When your Chi is strong, balanced, flowing and focused you exude energy and good health. Good health and strong, balanced Chi are almost one and the same. In Chinese Medicine one of the causes of ill health is the stagnation or blockage of Chi. Its postulate is that all areas, large and small, have a distinctive energy that is guidable by rearranging objects (e.g., removing an ornament from an apartment, or adding one to a particular corner of a room). To be avoided is: clutter, dark corners, gloomy colors, low ceilings, and sharp, pointed objects. Feng Shui literally means "wind and water" and is translatable as "vital energy" or "geomancy".
A form of geomancy. By observing the contours of the land, flow of water and wind, etc., one can determine the best place for building. By examining the flow of qi within a building, one can decide the best place for furniture and decorations. It revolves around five basic elements: wood, fire, earth, metal and water.
Chi.
Chi, or the energy an object, person or place has, is very important in Feng Shui . Since Chi relates to whatever is in a space, the flow of Chi is unique to every home and space. You will need to look carefully and thoroughly around your own house to assess where Chi is flowing freely and where it needs to be helped out a little (or a lot!).
Chi can be broken up into several components. The two main categories are: (1) Yin and Yang, and (2) the Five Elements. Feng Shui utilizes the concepts of Yin and Yang and the Five Elements to help rebalance the competing energies in your home. Yin and yang is representative of the opposite forces. As for the second category of Chi energy, five elements in Feng Shui are: water, wood, fire, metal, and earth. Like people, each element has its own unique personality that either enables it to “get along with” the other elements, or to “fight against” the other elements if the balance is not right.
The five elements.
The five elements are wood, fire, earth, metal, water. The Five-Element Theory is essentially a way to categorize items so that they can be used to restore the body's natural balance. With the body in balance again, there is health.
Every object or element present in a space has its own particular energy that it radiates to everyone and everything else in its proximity.
This includes large celestial objects like planets, stars etc.—they all emit energy and have influence your life in some way or the other.
Everything in our environment, whether living or inanimate, is imbued with movement. This is just not a belief but a reality based on the scientific fact that objects and elements are made up of tiny molecules and atoms that vibrate and stay constantly in motion. And since the atoms of these are constantly in motion they are abuzz with an energy that though not seen by the naked eye is able to influence our day-to-day life.
Under the Feng Shui discipline, there are a number of unique tools that assist us with tapping into the invisible energies of these inanimate objects. Feng Shui elements can help us to regain control over our lives and boost our creativity. Through proper Feng Shui practice you can have every single household object or Feng Shui decorating object in your home to emit positive life energy for you
Wood, fire, earth, metal, water.
Wood: promotes development and creative energies. You can use wooden objects to promote motivation, inspiration and passion without overwhelming your home.
Fire: is considered the most powerful of all five elements and represents energy and passion.
Earth: itself has solidity and permanence to it, and the element of earth appropriately represents these qualities of stability, permanence, and home. This can be necessary in a space that is too full of movement.
Metal: are transmitters or conduct energy, introduction of metal can generate attention and transmit energy to that area.
Water: as in trickling fountain, can signal networking, communication, professional opportunities and wealth, while running sink or toilet water that is just wasting water may signal loss of money or poor health.
Feng Shui relates to your home.
Feng Shui elements can either be harmonious and unified, or it can be ridden with conflict, creating a kind of war.
Each item in your home—things like your computer, your potted plant, your fish tank, your favourite pillow, your orange vase, and so on—are all made of the Feng Shui elements and have either yin or yang energies contained in them.
You will know if your home’s Chi is conflicted because you will feel uneasy, anxious, lethargic, unsatisfied, depressed, nervous, worried, sad, selfish, jealous, angry, frightened or empty.
When you attain “ideal” Chi (not too fast, and not too slow) the balance and harmony to your life will return. There are many different ways to achieve that optimal Chi, and it is different for everyone. It will soothe your nerves without depriving you of much-needed excitement and stimulation.
Feng Shui and science both say that energy is not solid or concrete; it is fluid and transferable, and that goes for all objects and people, too. Something that is yin can become more yang. Something that is yang today can turn around to become more yin tomorrow.
Both yin and yang are essential. The ‘Y’ energy is essential because it helps you stay motivated and gives you the push you need to get things done. But too much yang energy can drive you nuts. It can make you feel chaotic, frenzied and over-stimulated. It can make you feel too passionate, so that you can never just sit back and relax. Feng Shui elements have the power to balance the Yin and Yang energies of a space.
Bring in the colour.
One of the easy ways in which you can get your life moving by using Feng Shui is to bring the energy of specific colors in order to achieve the results you want. Color is very powerful, as it is light, and many spaces are starved for light. This is one of the ways in which you can start with very basic and elementary Feng Shui.
Below is the color correspondence of each of the five Feng Shui elements:
- WOOD: Green, Brown
- FIRE: Red, Strong Yellow, Orange, Purple
- EARTH: Light Yellow. Sandy/Earthy, Light Brown
- METAL: White, Grey
- WATER: Blue, Black

Feng Shui aid for positive career opportunities
Career is very important. The obvious reason is income and earnings but there are other reasons too. Like satisfaction, feeling of self-accomplishment, getting respect for us from others as well as having self respect.
A good career creates confidence and a feeling of well-being. For this you need to have a good electromagnetic field around you. What you need to do is energise your career corner according to Feng Shui. This will help you in gaining abundance in career.
Enhancing careers with Feng Shui is a popular subject in Feng Shui. It is second to generating wealth, energizing the career sector ranks high in interest among those interested in using Feng Shui to better their lives.
It makes sense due to the amount of time we spend at our jobs. So whether you are at your desk at office or at home you need to have a consistency in your positive electromagnetic fields. It also is understandable because to have a successful career enables us to make better decisions for ourselves and our families.
It doesn't always necessarily mean that you simply make more money. Money by itself doesn't ensure or solve all the ills of career problems. Of course, it doesn't hurt though making money. However, there are plenty of people out there making good salaries but unhappy with their respective careers.
When you energize areas that you would like to improve or enhance on, it's possible to open up a range of possibilities. For instance, by energizing your career sector, your job may suddenly become better, or something new and better will be coming to you that you hadn't expected at all, such as a business opportunity.
But this is the price of making changes -- you get more changes in your life, and therefore, more choices! And, that's what you usually want in your life: more opportunities and choices to create greater happiness for yourself and your family.
There are two critical and very important areas to enhance if you want to improve your career: your house and your office. Apart from this you can have cures and enhancers on your self too.
6 Key Steps
1. Look north. Make sure the north sector of your home is in good order. If your north sector is missing or if there is a toilet here, activate the north sector of your living room and office.
2. If your bedroom is in the north: This can be enhanced by decorating with blue or black, a picture of water (not overly large, however), and metal (preferably gold-colored) objects.
3. A north-facing home: Make the entrance to your home as attractive as possible to invite new opportunities. Make it neat and easy to come into by removing obstacles, blockages, dying plants, worn out welcome mats, etc.
By the way, DON'T buy welcome mats with your name on it you'll be walking on your good name! Place an image of a turtle or fish here. Be sure to block any views that go straight through from the front of the house to the back or you'll be missing opportunities (and losing money!).
4. Look south. Display peacock feathers in the south portion of the home and keep this area well-lit. The south represents recognition. A grouping of nine candles would be excellent here as well. Consider painting the south room in your house red, orange, or a shade of red.
5. Welcome career opportunities. Keep a light in the entrance to your home turned on. A chandelier with crystal prisms that cast the different colors about the entryway is especially good.
Or, hang a crystal below your light to cast colored prisms about the foyer. These are especially helpful if your stairs face or end close to the front door; good opportunities go right on out the door!
6. Add water to the front of your home. Consider putting in a water fountain (on the left side of the door as you look out of the house) inside the house or outside. (A water feature on the right side of the house invites cheating in the marriage.) If you put in a water feature outside your home, make sure the water appears to be flowing toward the house. This is one of the best ways to bring opportunities to your door.
What you can do at your office
8 Key Elements
1. Sit in a power position by facing (but not in direct line with) the door. Don't sit with your back to the door ever. If your furnishings in your office or cubicle are built in, then turn your computer so that you can see someone coming from either your left or right side.
2. Tap your pa kua number. Face your personal best directions if at all possible, but never ignoring #1 above. Use as many of your personal best directions as possible!
3. Stop gossip. If gossip is a problem in your career, get a statue of a rooster and place it on your desk to look at anyone coming into the office. This will help curb some of the talk in the office.
4. Get support. This is extremely important for a good career and why you should have something solid behind you. If you have a window at your back, you will suffer from lack of support. Turn so that there is a wall behind you.
Also, make certain that there is not a bookshelf or open cabinets at your back. Place these where they are not in direct line with you or your desk. This also means making sure you don't have any bookshelves shelves facing you. Move these if you do. Also be certain you don't have a hallway, stairs, or other entry that is exactly opposite your desk.
5. Enhance your wealth corner. Place a plant in the South East corner of your office. Get rid of spindly, weak plants. Better to have a pretty silk plant than a real plant that is dying.
6. Be recognized. Trouble getting noticed? Place a lamp in the South corner of your office for more recognition. Also, place red objects, stones, or crystals in this location. The larger the stone, the better. Definitely go for heft and girth!
7. Activate your career sector. Place a tortoise in the north corner of your office to symbolize water and support. Or, place a big picture of water here. If you want to go all out, place an aquarium here with eight gold fish and one black gold fish.
8. Get help. It's the "who you know principle" that you want to engage. So, make sure the North West corner is activated. You want mentors or people to help you, right? If so, place a rock or geode here, or place metal objects in this location. Stereos and electronics are also good placed in the North West to bring helpful people and mentors to you. Gold, silver, or white objects are good when placed here. Try hanging a 6-rod windchime with hollow rods in this sector.

Feng Shui - Poison Arrows
Poison arrows are such angles that get the CHI deviated and instead directs the negative energy towards you. It essentially describe the sharp corner edges of a building or any design with a sharp edge, projecting towards another structure. The theory is that the poison arrows will send or emit a defensive or even hostile line of chi (air currents) towards whatever building or object is in direct line with it.
[To know more about chi scroll down this page or select it from the archives given on the left hand column of this page.]
If a large building sends poison arrows to a smaller building, it can undermine the health and well-being of the occupants in the building on the receiving end of the poison arrows.
Unintentionally, the corner edges of roof lines on some houses will also project this negative CHI [qi] toward another house.
